Hakgala Botanical Garden
Established in 1861 under George Henry Kendrick Thwaites as an experimental cultivation. Hakgala Botanical Garden is one of the five botanical gardens in Sri Lanka.
Hakgala Botanical Garden
The second largest botanical garden in Sri Lanka
The second largest of Sri Lanka's five botanical gardens, Hakgala Botanical Garden is adjacent to the Hakgala Strict Nature Reserve, which is home to a variety of species, including bears, monkeys, and birds. The road to Hakgala via the Badulla road is a lovely downhill drive, largely through pine forests. The pleasant, cool weather that prevails throughout the year blends perfectly with the diverse flora and fauna to create a veritable paradise.
The Rose Garden
The Botanic Gardens are well-known in the community for its collection; the rose garden, which is situated on a twin terraced plot of ground, features modern rose species imported from England and America. Behind the rose garden is a herbaceous border.
